Photos

Students take photos in two groups because of the number of cameras we have.

Each camera is labeled with a piece of making tape with the student's name on it. When the camera is full, the student brings the camera to a volunteer to download the images. Downloading is easy because all the cameras are the same. The volunteer puts the images into a folder for the student to look through later and clears the camera.

At a later time, a volunteer helps each student go through his/her folder of images and pick one to be printed. We normally email our images to Walgreens and have them printed 5 by 7 or 8 by 10. We then burn all the other images to a CD for the student to keep. This doesn't go quickly but we normally do this on the last day of camp when students are finishing projects and doing critiques.

Students enjoy photography so much we try to do an activity each year. Digital photography seems to work the best year to year. We have had student use homemade cameras with light sensitive paper. The younger students found objects to put on the paper and the lights were flashed on so the negative image of the object was on the paper. Adults developed the paper. This was fun but not practical to do each year.
