Crayons and Wax Paper

Remember when you would put crayon shavings in wax paper and iron them when you were little? I did this all the time. HERE is a great way to dress it up to make it look 'artsy.'

Supplies:

wax paper

crayons

grater and/or butter knives (Dollar Tree has little graters)

iron

ironing board or hard surface

cheap paper or rags

scissors

display materials: needle, thread, paperclips, wire, ribbon

Instructions:

    1. Grate/cut crayons onto wax paper

    2. Lay a piece of wax paper over top

    3. Iron. Put cheap paper or rags under the wax paper some melted wax will sneak out the edge.

    4. Let cool. This is quick but make sure it is cool.

    5. Cut into circles.

    6. Display. The cool part of this project is how you display it.

    Tips:

    * In the picture above, a basket is wrapped in ribbon then strings of circles are attached to the basket. The circles can just be strung together for a garland. The circles can be stuck to clear contact paper then put on a window. The circles can be glued to a mat board the ModPodged overtop.

*This project is so simple. You probably already have everything. The key is making it look like art by how you display it.

    * The kids can help iron the wax paper. The iron only needs to be on low.

    * You can challenge kids to cut out different shapes. Think leaves on wire to make a tree. Or the a bird with wings folded in half the wings held up by a skewer then suspended by the skewer.
