Permenent Marker Tie-Dye

HERE are more cute photos of this project. Everyone has the supplies to do this project.

Supplies:

white t-shirts or white fabric (old cloth napkins, pillow case, hemmed drop cloth) (one per child)

permanent markers

plastic cups (muffin tins also work well)

rubber bands

rubbing alcohol

dropper (not really necessary)

Instructions:

1.) Lay out shirt. Put cups or muffin tin inside shirt then secure with rubber bands.

  1. Draw patterns with permanent markers.

  2. Add a little rubbing alcohol in the center of each circle. It spreads for a while so you don't need a lot, hence the dropper. I poured sparingly but you could put some in a bowl and have children put a teaspoon full in the middle of each.

  3. Wait! Let it dry. (An hour or so. You could send it home that day.)

  4. Remove cups and rubber bands.

    Tips:

*To prevent any bleeding or fading, wash the clothing separately in very hot water to heat set the color. (An iron won't do.)
